Journey to Crooked City  is a fiber-based, mixed-media triptych that was inspired by mermaid lore, politics, architecture and place. The journey begins with Yemaya, goddess of the ocean, in the waters of Africa. It’s believed that all of life comes from her deep, nourishing waters. Mami-Wata commands the central panel, offering  wealth and riches to her loyal worshipers and admirers. Her trademark comb and watch link her to the waters of her fellow deities. The final panel reveals the descent into Crooked City, where buildings explode and time stands still.
