In climate-challenged New Orleans, it's important to capture water where it lands. It's even more important to teach residents how to capture stormwater on their own properties using materials that are contextually sensitive.

The Global Green planter project explored the use of flowable high-strength concrete, a material compatible with historic architecture, for creating rain garden vessels. Runoff from the roof will be directed into the planter, filtered through a vegetated facility, and retained in a layer of sand, sparing the City's over-taxed drainage system.

Art has a noble place in advocacy. And stormwater management  is no exception. Global Green asked artists to paint rain barrels as a strategy to bring awareness to their value and usefulness. This rain barrel was inspired by the  Louisiana cypress swamps and the lushness of their peaty floors.
